Thank You For Your Feedback

Feedback is pretty important when it comes to improving how we approach certain things. I would say I have not received any good feedback. Reflecting back and after some reading about what good feedback is, I have only been given advice or have been given vague commentary.

I have never heard of "Feedforward" until I read this article on it written by Marshall Goldsmith. Goldsmith outlined eleven points as to why feedforward is usually a better way of helping others improve. I like the idea that feedforward is based upon. I feel like if I were to receive feedforward it would help me and remember the suggestions that I received.

Grant Wiggins clearly outlines what good feedback is in this article. This is an eye-opener if you ask me. It was what made me see that all the "feedback" I have received in the past was really suggestions. With the way that feedback should be outlined, it would allow me to take note of why I needed to improve on that specific part or why what I did was good. According to Wiggins, feedback should touch upon the goals that were being accomplished followed by advice if necessary.

I see how it is also important to learn how to give good feedback to others. Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman wrote an article as to why feedback is a lacking skill in the work environment. We have all believed that feedback should be given to help change something rather it being both critical and praising. Everyone deserves praise on what they are doing correctly and knowing why it is correct.

I know I do not give good feedback. It has been engraved into my mind to never criticize certain things and applied that to also giving feedback. I should never say anything that was not good about what another person has produced. After reading these articles, I will make an effort in learning how to give good feedback to my peers. I hope to write both good and critical feedback as I need to learn how to do both.

  1. I'm glad to hear you learned so much from these articles! Feedback can be tough to give or to recieve, but I hope you'll enjoy our work on this in the class.
