Non-Fiction Isn't Always Boring

When we hear non-fiction, a lot of people generally have a distaste towards non-fiction. I can say that I am one of those people. I prefer to read fictional pieces and get immersed in a new world. Now realizing that I do tend to also read non-fiction in the form of news articles to stay informed on current events that interest me. I tend to go for articles that cover the impact in music such as the articles I will mention shortly. I like to read about how music is changing the world.

As I was searching for recent articles that were about K-pop, I found this article about a new trend in the K-pop community. I haven't heard of the trend of having an "emotional support K-pop boy" and as I read more I understood why it became a trend. The main idea of the trend is a K-pop fan looks up to a certain idol and they feel emotionally supported by them through their words. K-pop idols have a massive fanbase throughout many social media platforms and they engage fans with advice and fun content to make them laugh and smile. This article is a piece of non-fiction that I enjoy because it revolves around a music genre that I enjoy listening to and sometimes engage in.

I decided to go to a different musical genre and found this article on the rise of reggaeton in more recent years. As I was reading the article, I realized how this music genre wasn't as mainstream when I was younger as it is now. As someone who identifies as a Latina, it makes me proud to see that there is a bigger appreciation for Spanish-speaking artists. When I used to hear the radio when I was younger, there were no songs that were in Spanish. Listening to the radio in recent years and you can hear at least one song that is in Spanish. Just like the K-pop article, this one was enjoyable to me because it is a music genre I listen to and it also is a part of a culture I am a part of.
